According to @Reuters, the United States approved 10 Chinese companies to purchase $NVDA H200 chips.
The U.S. Department of Commerce officially approved the sale of the H200 chip (the second most powerful AI chip from Nvidia) to ten Chinese companies, including Alibaba $BABA , Tencent, ByteDance, and JD., as well as authorized distributors like Lenovo and Foxconn. Each of these clients has the right to purchase up to 75,000 chips.
No shipments have been made so far, why?
- From the American side, the January rules required the Chinese buyer to prove "adequate security procedures" and guarantees against military use, which complicated the purchasing process. - From the Chinese side, the Chinese government officially directed its companies to wait and not purchase, fearing hidden security vulnerabilities in the chips.
China also does not want the technological independence project via local @Huawei chips to be delayed, especially as @deepseek_ai and other Chinese companies have started relying on the local alternative.
